Role of Gabanergic and, or Serotonergic in the Anti-seizure Activity of Methanol Extract of Crinum jagus (J. Thomps) in Experimental Mice

Objective: Crinum jagus is used in traditional African medicine the treatment of epilepsy, pain and inflammations.
 Methods: Anticonvulsant activity was investigated using picrotoxin (PCT) strychnine (STR) tests experimental paradigm.
 Results: leaf methanol extract (200, 400, 800 mg kg−1) potentiated hexobarbitone-induced sleeping time significantly (p<0.05) shortened duration convulsions PCT-induced seizures. Delay onset seizure were very significant (p<0.05). Reduction frequency seizures also test. Diazepam (5 as reference anticonvulsant drugs models. While, CJB failed to protect animals against picrotocin-induced convulsion. Neither CJL nor confer effect on STR-induced Flumazenil (GABA receptor antagonist) cyproheptadine (5-HT2 blocked PCT suggesting that may be acting by enhancing effects GABAergic serotonergic systems.
 Conclusion: The data obtained suggest C. possessed effect, thereby confirming uses epilepsies; mechanisms which involve interaction with pathway.
